I had the privilege of being in the same race a Bruce at a Babson College 4.5 miler. I was with the Central Mass Striders, and was outclassed by 2 guys in our club. One of those guys Steve O’Connell, asked me which one was Bickford.. I said I’ve never met him, but I’ve seen him splashed all over Runner’s World, and Running Times magazine. There was a guy warming up and smiling, a confident fun loving expression before the race. I had know idea who he was… I told O’Connell I thought Bickford may have been the guy in the purple and white singlet. Steve and I watched him closely. This guy hung back, and I was saying to myself, boy Bruce is running real conservative today. Meanwhile this other guy screamed out, like a Cheetah, and we were saying: “That guy is going to go into oxygen debt. And he’ll come back to us in a mile or two…” Well that “Cheetah” kept going, with a clean powerful stride that only the 6 million dollar man could muster. Oh it was Bruce Bickford, and he left us all in another time zone. O’Connell got 3rd I think, and I settled for 7th. I knew if I were ever in a race with Bruce,I would certainly be able to identify him, by the tiny speck pulling away, in front of the field. This guy has been my hero and inspiration ever since. I won a low key mile (I’m a has been at 63 now) in South Berwick, Maine, and I would’ve loved to have run into Bruce up there somewhere. I’ve been trying to find an email address or some way to correspond with this guy. Mr. Campbell, if you could pass along message to Bruce, I would be grateful. The courageous effort he made in the ‘88 Olympics, will never be forgotten. He had an Achilles injury (the tending swelling to the diameter of one’s fist) as well as food poisoning Seoul, and still finished the 10,000m, and made the U.S. proud. I wrote him a letter, shortly after the Olympics. Joan Benoit was another inspiration of all of us running enthusiasts… She won the Charlie’s Surplus World Class 10 miler) in Worcester, MA my Dad drove the pace car that day ! I met her, once again, while I was in college in CT. I had just married my bride Sue, and she autographed a book for me, mentioning how happy she was, I had met my soulmate ! I don’t know what they feed the runners in Maine, but I want some. I gave up racing for 23 years, to take care of my cancer stricken dad and my mom when she became ill. I made a futile comeback in 2018, managed to winsome fun runs, low key races and one 5K. I grew up in Sutton, MA. Iran 315 races, won 82, now they have to wait a few days for me to finish. Well, Thank God, I can still line up with the running gang. Bickford was pure amazing, and had a will like steel. I met Rodgers too, at his store in Worcester, and When I raced at the posting Milk Run. Bruce placed 2nd one year out of 3600 runners. Please say hi to him for us. Mr. Campbell, thanks for all you shared with us, about this great guy ! Sincerely, John, and the better half: Susan Grundstrom, Somers, CT

3m16 the shoulder of ereng puches eliott who touches aouita and coast him at least the silver medal.Aouita did stop and fight back with immense courage and took the bronze even he was injured in his right leg .You can compare that as running with your car at 100k/h and breaks suddenly ,you need time to restart but aouita did that in fraction of seconds.ELiott by blokking the first line coast him the silver medal at least.

Man what the hell happened to sports...back then you had at least one legend in each athletics event, football teams were stacked with legends, proper rivalries etc. I hardly watch any athletics anymore just because it is such a toss up who'll win and then you'll never hear about them again.
